What is CRM?

ICRM Seal 

The Institute of Certified Records Managers™ (ICRM) is an international certifying organization of and for professional records and information managers. The ICRM was incorporated in 1975 to create a standard designation or CRM by which persons involved in records and information management could be measured, accredited, and recognized in accord with criteria of experience and knowledge established by their peers.

 

ARMA International- The Authority on Records Information Management

In the records and information management profession the primary certification is the Certified Records Manager (CRM). The CRM is designed for experienced professionals with management-level responsibilities. ARMA International has contracted with the Institute of Certified Records Managers (ICRM) to be its certifying body.

Emails, documents, spreadsheets, instant messages, faxes, reports, case notes, images, web pages, voice mails, contracts, presentations... whether your organization is large or small, there's no escaping the barrage of electronic information.

Records - electronic or analogue - document an organization's decisions and actions and thus represent an organization's "corporate memory." Managing these records requires the cooperation and coordination of people as well as technical and non-technical systems. The requirements of records management aren't new. What is new is the impact of an ever increasing volume of electronic documents that must now be included for records management to have relevance and legitimacy. Properly managed, records are strategic assets. Improperly managed, they can become liabilities.
